Kathy Murphy - Kathy@myoptibrain.com 2.20.2018 An article about the recent Women’s French Open winner caught my attention… The headline was “A fearless risk-taker captures her first WTA Tour title at a Grand Slam.”. This player is 20 years old spending her life on a tennis court (and undoubtedly in the gym). Why wouldn’t she be fearless and a risk-taker while playing tennis? Ok, some amount of fear in certain circumstances is good – it is a survival instinct. However, when we are talking about sport performance, fear (and the anxiety that accompanies it) can limit our success. It is true, this emotion does exist when playing a game…not because it has a legitimate place, it just seems to creep in over time. Once we become aware, we can choose a different…

Opti Coach Kathy Murphy, LPGA Master Professional 7.11.2017 My turn to tell a story about how the Opti Train App is assisting my students. Charlie Charlie is a 25 handicapper who has played golf for about 15 years. He plays maybe eight times a month (during a 5 month season) with occasional practice sessions. He has recognized that there are times he hits his shots the way he planned. They are solid and accurate enough to provide the fun and satisfaction he is looking for. He also recognizes that he often experiences doubt as to how to swing and/or how to perform the short shots. This has led him down the tinkering road. Which has led to more doubt and more questions? Introducing Opti Train When I told him…

Kathy Murphy 5.11.2017 The following quotes are from Dr. Joe Dispenza, renowned for his expertise in teaching neuroscience and human potential. These statements were written in the forward to the book, The Science of Golf and Life written by Dr. Debbie Crews and Dr. Candace Pert. “When we match our behaviors with our intentions, align our actions with our thoughts, and we get our mind and body working together, we move into that indescribable state of being that all who play [golf] crave so much.” “With the advent of functional brain scans and various other modern technologies we are able to peer into the inner workings of the mind and body. When we can correlate what is going on inside of us with what we are consistently creating outside of…

By Judi Adams -2x Olympian, Performance Coach       4/20/17 In his book, A New Earth, Ekhart Tolle writes: “Do I want the present moment to be my friend or my enemy? The present moment is inseparable from life, so you are really deciding what kind of relationship you want to have with life. Once you have decided you want the present moment to be your friend, it is up to you to make the first move; Become friendly toward it, welcome it no matter in what disguise it comes, and soon you will see the results. Life becomes friendly toward you; people become helpful, circumstances cooperative. One decision changes your entire reality. But that one decision you have to make again and again and again – until it…

Kathy Murphy April 6, 2017 I am reading a fascinating book by Tom Friedman, Thank You for Being Late: An Optimists Guide to Thriving in the Age of Accelerations. He provides numerous examples from Technology, Mother Nature and The Market (global flows of commerce, social networks, finance, etc.) to illustrate how fast our world is changing. Having experienced the golf industry over the last 39 years…I can relate. There have been so many changes in golf clubs, golf balls, swing technique and performance theories - it can be challenging to keep up. Performing well, in any area of our lives, is complicated with ‘information overload’. Too much information coming at us at an accelerating pace creates an uneasy feeling. We could describe this feeling as instability or disorientation. To survive…

EEG and Attentional Disorders This is an article recently sent to me from one of our Opti supporters. http://blogs.biomedcentral.com/on-medicine/2017/03/09/using-eeg-to-identify-attention-disorders/ The article describes a specific study in which “EEG’s can reliably detect specific brain differences associated with attentional disorders.” Generally, doctors diagnose attentional disorders with an examination and the person’s clinical history. Surprisingly, even MRI studies “have not yet proven to constitute a clinically…

"Data Debbie" As a a person who is fascinated by learning and performance, I have unbridled enthusiasm for this training tool. Let me tell you some of the reasons for my excitement. First, I have learned over the last 20 years that if you ask Dr. Debbie Crews her opinion on a product, she does not commit it unless she can…
